Janie Sinn

Music Educator, Arts Advocate, and Emerging Conductor

Currently, she serves as the Music Director for the Vancouver Youth Wind Symphony, leading on and off the podium. As an arts administrator, she has led numerous community engagement programs and educational programs with non-profits.

Janie’s conducting journey has been unconventional and adventurous since she graduated from the University of Victoria. While she was working with various community-based non-profit organizations, she continued to refine her conducting skills.  She served as Assistant Conductor with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra for two seasons (2022-2024) under the guidance of Conductor Jin Zhang, through the Wallace Leung Memorial Internship. In her pursuit of further developing her conducting expertise, she has participated in workshops with renowned conductors, including the Satio International Conducting Workshop with Wayne Towes (2023), Cascade Conducting with Maestra Sarah Ioannides (2024), Maestro Masterclasses with Maestra Diane Wittry (2025), UVIC Conducting Symposium with Dr.Steven Capaldo and the Naden Navy Band (2025) and University of Alberta Conducting Symphosium with Dr. Angela Schroeder, Professor Gary Hill and Royal Canadian Artillery Band (2026).

As an advocate for Music education and arts administration, Janie has been a leader and valued team member in numerous music organizations in the Lower Mainland. She is now the School Tour Manager for Vancouver Opera and Pacific Opera Victoria for the co-production show: Howl. She has also been a part of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Education department for three seasons, leading their education outreach programs, elementary school concerts, and community engagement events. Previously, she was the Large Ensemble Coordinator for the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Large Ensemble Festivals, Orchestra Manager for the Richmond Delta Youth Orchestra, and Box Office Coordinator for Music in the Morning Concert Society.

A passionate advocate for quality music education, Janie is committed to providing learning opportunities outside the formal school environment. She firmly believes in the transformative power of music and works tirelessly to make it accessible to individuals of all ages and skill levels. Her mission is to foster a love of music-making through both educational programs and community engagement, ensuring that music remains a vital part of people’s lives. She continues to seek conducting opportunities to develop her skills and grow her confidence on the podium, always striving for ongoing professional growth.
